Below is a recent recorded teleconversation between remisier, R and his client, C. The remisier was actually awoken from his almost slumber state by the piercing sound of telephone.
(Phone rings piercing through a typical quiet trading afternoon).
R: Arr ...Hullo!
C: Hi! How's the market?
R: Oh C! Ahh....(checking the terminal for the 1st time since last checked about 20 mins ago)..market is currently down 8 points at 1,240 with volume touching 400 million shares.
C: Ai yah, market down and volume still small ..I heard from the radio, asian markets are all up 2-3% after dow jones 400 points up...what happened la to our market?...
R: Ya...lack of interest and worries from the investors ...
R: Technically (now almost awake), the CI has a gap to fill around 1,250-1,277 created on that fateful 10 March....the index just now touches 1,265...but lost steam....normal la to fill the gap and begin sideway again..
C: I see..
R: If you ask me about the sentiment of players....they are just sidelined and worried...about the current state of politics in the country....badawi asked to resign as BN did badly, kuli and anwar making attempt to wrest control, mahathir making noices, MPs jumping ships, pkr-dap-pas internal problems, all sorts...
C: Actually, I also heard about this...come April and May...many things will happened...That's why I want u to sell my KLK...yesterday down alot la....take money first..buy cheaper latter.
(remisier sold KLK before ending the teleconversation) (remisier went back to slumber land .....zzzz zzzz)
Is this a typical conversation lately with the investing community and public at trading halls, offices, mamak stalls, airports and everywhere? Political risk was never an issue in Malaysia before. Will Malaysia be the next Thailand or Japan? Thailand has been neither here or there for the past 2 years already. Losing confidence of the political and effectiveness of Government is a very expensive affair and the country's economic performance and well being will be penalised dearly. The monies needed to buy back confidence is disasterous economically and not to mention lost of valuable time. Malaysia's lost will be another country's gain. It makes investing by foreign funds easier as there is one lesser country to analyse. I really hope this scenario will not happened in our beloved country and we will be able to get out of this mud quickly.
* The above picture relates to beetle fighting. This " sport" is confined to countries in Mynmar and Northern Laos. As usual, they fight over a female which apparently, emit maddening scent to the male beetle. At the end of the contest, the winner will be given a piece of raw sugar cane but will not get to meet the lady. The injured is said to end up in the frying wok to be consumed with chili sauce!
